I Have Arrived….

Yesterday, I managed to finally make the thing that I desperately needed a funnel for, ginger ale. You can find the recipe at Frankhausers Cheese Page, which I first came across via the sparkybeegirl site. In the meantime, my garlic oil and my pickled baby zucchini are doing well, meaning not cloudy or anything of that nature. Today, I will be straining the garlic oil and maybe making some basil flavored olive oil (edible).

Last year at this time, I was anticipating my upcoming birthday. My kids kept asking me what I wanted? That was usually a dilemna for me because I am perfectly aware that while they want to know from the bottom of their own hearts, they are also sent by Money Bags ( I mean Dad), which means the world is wide open for glamorous or frivolous presents.

This year, while I anticipate my birthday, I don’t feel the same way. I went to lehmans.com and had husband order me a proper canning set for my birthday!  He was kind of skeptical because he anticipated that I would want a new wardrobe or something of that nature, but he complied (happily I might add). By the way, what happened to kitchenware stores? I couldn’t find one local one that enticed me to come on down! Williams and Sonoma are lovely as is Crate and Barrel but for a home arts kind of person, they just don’t carry what I may need (a quick check online showed this). the last time I visited a genuine kitchenware store was in Sandusky Ohio I think, or somewhere in that region anyway.

The good thing about all of this is that it proves to me that while I am changing my old way of life, that terrible consumerism thing, I have actually changed my way of thinking. I am living the change, not just learning how to change. Truthfully? It wasn’t that hard. Like they said in the 80’s, Just Say NO!
