15 Minutes of Organizing
Since the kids have been home for the holidays and husband has had a few freebie days off as well, (plus the ever revolving selection of auxiliary teenagers that come over to eat) the house is feeling claustrophobic. Not that I don’t appreciate having my loved ones around but we live in a small space and the clutter is getting bigger by the minute. I am sending the kids back to school on Monday but I also start school again on the same day. The upcoming class will require studio space. Clear, uncluttered studio space!
My family are not slovenly pigs(the title of my blog has more to do with Orwell than with cleanliness). They do help around here but when there are so many people around cleaning is done around them. Husband gets dusted just like the television, the kids get swept while I clean the office, and they all pitch in and do dishes.
One issue for me is organization. I don’t like to do it, am not good at it but like an organized space or more accurate-spaces. So like it or not, I do it. I am getting better at it (if it requires talent I have no hope, but if it is a learned skill, then I am getting there).
I tried something new over the last few days. The 15 minute decluttering tip that you can read more about here. I didn’t go it alone though. I made the family do it alongside me. We got the sewing area, the office, daughters dresser and the bathroom shelves all done. Added bonus? Husband brought out his drill and finally got to odd little jobs. I plan on taking advantage of all this free time the family has until they all go back to the normal routine. Maybe good habits will form.
